Rare Conch Shell carved with 5 individual images of the Hindu God Ganesha
Ganesha is considered to be the god of prosperity and the remover of obstacles. In the Hindu tradition this elephant headed god on a human body was the son of Lord Shiva and the Goddess Parvati. The elephant head is symbolic of his big brain or vast knowledge and wisdom. People starting a new business or beginning a new enterprise would pray to this deity for success, and good fortune. His image may also be found in ancient Buddhist scriptures.
The conch shell is both of ritual and religious importance in Hinduism and Buddhism and when blown its sound is associated with the sacred syllable ‘OM’ which is believed to be the first sound of creation.
